hello, world!
uhhh shit this is my first blog post how do i do this
first, i would like to thank you for checking out the website so far. in conjunction to this website, i'm developing a site to market my IRL counterpart to future employers. i'm also just starting to dive into HTML and CSS, and while i have some experience with JS, i don't know how HTML/CSS employs uses JS. thus, i will need to search documentation on javascript integration on top of the mentioned tasks. what i'm trying to say is expect relatively slow development for this site LOL
i KNOW i have a "comic" tag on my neocities site; i will get to integrating those eventually. i have a few ideas for implementation, one of which being similar to xkcd, but it would require some scripting work (scary). i'll leave that for when i actually have some amount of content on the website because the content will partially distract you from my future makeshift and fragile code. it theoretically shouldn't take too long before i learn the necessary skills for that page; when i do create the page, i will list it as a subpage in the header.
as for other things in my life, i've made the switch from discord to revolt around three weeks ago. this has been something that's been affecting my life pretty heavily as i made so many friends on discord only to ditch the platform. granted, this was a process that i planned for months in advance and that i spoke with my friends continuously about, but dammit; i still miss talking to my friends over there. while i have contact with several of them by other social media, i communicated with them most on discord. i wonder how discord changed since i last fully used it, and i wonder how my friends are doing. i wonder if any of them will read this post. regardless, i hope my friends are doing well, and i wish nothing but the best for them. they've been nothing but supportive of my decision.
there does exist a silver lining, though—revolt has been great! several people i've met through the app have been super nice. their support helps me as i kinda feel like the new kid in town in the platform's public servers. i've made a few friends, but not many. i bet that will change in the future as i speak more here :3
if you're wondering why i switched to revolt in the first place, i have a few reasons to making the switch. first, i really really really do not trust the new ceo of discord to make changes in the interest of the end users. in that article, the company also confirms plans of going public; the new york times reported on previous speculation here. this essentially told me that the company will be making decisions for profits and future shareholders, which doesn't sit right with me. i've been getting sick and tired of corporations degrading their products to squeeze the existing users of their time and money, so when i found out about this news, i decided to set my foot down and say "NO. i'm not okay with this happening. i'm going to put the money where my mouth is and leave." it was the last straw to an already compounding issue with discord's automated support responses: several of my friends were false-banned from abbreviating "creator points" from geometry dash, and discord's absolute indifference caused the creator of the game to make a public statement on the matter. i can't trust a platform who can't handle two characters padded by white space.
i do have more general concerns with discord now, but i think those would be repetitive to place here. my friend trace, the lovely individual who recommended this website template, offers more extensive concerns that i share in his blog post here. i did not know about a lot of these concerns when making the swap, but they now help in reinforcing my decision to do.
this has been a pretty long blog post; thanks for sticking through to the end. i just wanted to shed some light on how i'm doing right now and why i decided to take the path i'm currently on with this initial post. i'll stick some contact methods up soon in case you're somehow interested in talking to me after reading this LOL. until then, i'll continue chipping away at the site. hoping for a warm welcome! stay awesome
